When it comes to social media and microblogging I enjoy the statusnet community a lot. (It's like a Twitter alternative, but instead of being on just the Twitter servers, anyone can have their own and the servers can all talk to each other.) I have an account on Quitter.se and had started using a statusnet client called Crow written by Quitter user @bijan. Whilst I got it working easily on my Linux laptop at home by following the instructions provided I wasn't sure if it would work on my work iMac. So naturally I had to give it a try and got it working. So I decided to submit the steps needed for other OSX users to be able to use Crow. This lead to me creating a Github account, forking his repository, submitting my changes and then initiating a Pull request. In English that is I copied the software, made me changes to the instructions, saved them and then asked that they were incorporated into the main project. Happily Bijan accepted my changes and then credited me for helping. Of the many nerdy things I've done this is up there with the best of them. (Infact probably the only thing just as nerdy as this is the time I created a usenet group back in the 90s.)
