My First Sony

When I was little my mum would constantly embaress me by pulling furniture or household items out of skips and taking them home. Whilst we were hard up it was also down to a hatred of waste on my mum's part. As I've gotten older I too have now started doing exactly what used to make me so embaressed when I was little. It just seems such a logical thing: there is something that can be useful for you and you can take it for free and in doing so you help the world's resources. Which is how I came to get this My First Sony tape recorder. I was passing a property havng building work and a load of items left by the previous tenants were dumped outside including this.

My First Sony

As soon as I got it home I popped in some batteries, and 1 of the 3 remanining cassete tapes I own!, only to find it didn't work. Which was a shame as the styling of it is has that classic Sony slickness to it. I was thinking the electrics inside can't be too complicated, which is a good thing given I'm rubbish at electrics, so I opened the back to find the belt that runs from the motor had slipped off. After I replaced it this little lovely was working again. As someone sarcastically pointed out to me "great, you've got a tape player" but one of the few remaning tapes I own is a learn Spanish course I'd always meant to do so will use it for that. Here's a small clip that I posted to Vine to show it working.
