Had a great evening out at a comedy night last night but when we got the tickets my gut SANK as I realised we were in the front row! The fear the comedians might pick on us for laughs had me worried for a bit. The line up was Eddie Izzard, John Bishop, Jo Brand, Stephen K Amos, Lloyd Langford. Obviously headlining was Eddie Izzard and whilst he was amusing he wasn't hilarious. I'd seen him live in the 90's and remember that being hilarious but his set last night sort of seemed just more of the same stuff he was doing back in the 90's and had gone off the boil a bit it seemed. I'd say I wasn't alone in the thinking this as whilst he got a tremendous reception coming onto the stage he wasn't getting as many laughs and claps as the other comedians that had been on before him.
John Bishop was very funny and as he wasn't on TV was a bit more risque and ruder which was a good thing! Jo Brand still does jokes about being a fat woman but was funny still and the host of the evening Stephen K Amos has me in stitches.
On the rare occasions I do go to a comedy club I always say I should go more often, as laughter really is a good medicine, but rarely follow that up.
